The Garde Arts Center, 325 State St., New London, will host a premiere of the Disney film “The Finest Hours” at 7:30 p.m. March 3, with a panel discussion afterward.
The film depicts the dramatic 1952 rescue of the crew of a sinking freighter off the coast of Cape Cod by U.S. Coast Guard Boatswains Mate 1st Class Bernard Webber and his three-man crew.The panel discussion will be moderated by Harriet Jones, business editor of WNPR Connecticut Public Radio, and will include Tony Falcone, artist and personal friend of Bernard Webber; Jack Downey, U.S. Coast Guard retired and first recipient of the Joshua James Ancient Keeper award; Lt. Daniel Tavernier, commanding officer, U.S. Coast Guard Station New London; and Cmdr. Andrew Ely, chief of response, U.S. Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound.
