(New London, CT) Eight-time Grammy Award winner HERBIE HANCOCK joins the Garde Arts Center for its 80th Anniversary Season for one night only on Wednesday, May 30 at 8:00 pm, co-presented by the Garde with Kitchings Productions.

Apr 06, 2007 9:58 AM - HERBIE HANCOCK is one of jazz music's most important and influential pianists and composers. He embraces elements of rock, funk, and soul while adopting freer stylistic elements from jazz.

A rare and true icon of modern music, Hancock continues to bring audiences new and inventive visions of jazz. Yet for all his restless experimentalism, Hancock's music is melodic and accessible; he has had many songs "cross over" and achieve success among pop audiences. A leader of musical innovation, Hancock explores the creation of fresh music through collaboration and expansion upon his and others’ experiences, and what results is a collection of poignant musical imprints.

The multi-award winning pianist is entering his fifth decade of professional life and, along the way, has garnered an Academy Award and eight Grammy Awards, not to mention a place in the forefront of world culture, technology, business, and music. Since 1991, he has been the Distinguished Artist in Residence at Jazz Aspen Snowmass in Colorado. b>Hancock also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz.

By popular demand, Garde patrons will now be able to purchase, at the Garde Box Office and on-line, a $5 transferable parking pass for any Garde event at the Cornish Parking Garage to assist with ease of parking. The Cornish Parking Garage is located at 192 Governor Winthrop Blvd in downtown New London, CT, with entrances at 192 Governor Winthrop Blvd. and 70 Union Street.
