Programs & ServicesThe Garde presents the best in performing arts and film including national Broadway musical tours (Citizens Bank Broadway Series), international opera companies with live orchestra, children’s theater (The Day Young and Fun Series), schooltime performances, ballet, music and special events. The annual New London Film Festival brings the movie palace experience to contemporary and classic film.
The Garde hosts performances presented by others including the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, Eastern Connecticut Ballet, the Miss Connecticut Scholarship Pageant , and other local arts organizations and performing arts schools. A variety of civic events are held throughout the year including debates, educational forums, graduations, and public speakers. Garde programs and facilities also offer promotion and fundraising opportunities for other non-profit organizations, as well as meeting and function space for private or public events of any kind.
The Garde educates the broader community by offering arts education and participation opportunities that deepen cultural understanding. Through the Garde Institute of Creativity, after-school and summer-time arts classes are offered. Performance-related workshops and events also provide more direct involvement in a variety of arts disciplines. As part of the PACE program, Partners: Arts, Education, Community, the Garde has a number of partnerships with schools, educators, parents, and community and social service organizations.
